“This afternoon at about 2:15 p.m. Chris added his wings and joined his brother, grandpa and other family members.”
Those were the words offered in the final journal entry for the Caring Bridge Web site chronicling the final days of the life of Chris Panitzke.
Panitzke, 28, of Red-wood Falls died Sept. 8 as a result of gunshot wounds he received Sept. 2 during a shooting at a Prentice Street residence in Granite Falls. The shooting also resulted in the death of Kara Monson, 26, of Granite Falls.
According to reports, it was Panitzke who made the 911 call at 3:30 a.m. from the Granite Falls home stating there had been a shooting incident.
Panitzke, who had been shot numerous times, including to his left foot, arm and chest, was airlifted to Henne-pin County Medical Center. Over the ensuing days Chris faced several surgeries, but in his final 24 hours things began to deteriorate ultimately resulting in his death.
The “person of interest” in the shooting, Andrew Dikken, 28, of Granite Falls and formerly of Renville is still being sought, as law enforcement continues to look for him.
Anyone with information regarding this incident or the possible whereabouts of Dikken is encouraged to contact law enforcement.
No other information was available at the time this edition went to print Wednesday.
A funeral service is being held for Chris Panitzke this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Luth-eran Church in Red-wood Falls, with a visitation Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the church. See complete obituary in-formation on Page 7.
