Floyd George Hendrickson, born December 12, 1922 in Redwood Falls to Nels and Mabel Hendrickson, passed away peacefully September 7 in Denton, Texas. Interment will be at a later date in Washington County, Ind.
Floyd George Hendrickson, born December 12, 1922 in Redwood Falls to Nels and Mabel Hendrickson, passed away peacefully September 7 in Denton, Texas.
Floyd was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment will be at a later date in Washington County, Ind.
He loved sports and was an all-state football player in high school.
He was in the Navy in World War w serving on the armed guard of merchant ships sailing between the U.S. and England.
He was on the command ship in the English Channel on D-Day and on one of the destroyers in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrendered to General McArthur. He was recalled to active service in the Korean War and served on a destroyer off the coast of Korea.
In 1949 he married Betty Jean Volk who passed away in 1950 while he was on active duty with the Navy.
He was married to Agnes Elliott from 1952 until her death in 1988. In 1989 he married Betty Geisinger. In 1985 Floyd retired from British Petroleum after 25 years.
He is survived by his wife Betty in Denton, his daughter Treva Youngren and son-in-law Doug of Windsor, Colo., grandson Trey Bird of Uvalde, Texas, step-children Byron Elliott of Albuquerque, N.M., Sharon Dodd of Tennessee and John Lodge of Denton, his brother John Hendrickson of Woodland Hills, Calif. and sisters Pearl Schafer of Nampa, Idaho and Helen Schneider and Violet Harder, both of Redwood Falls.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Nels Hendrickson, Jr. and his sister Bernice Noack.
