  • Old SOD Day in Belview this weekend

  • One year ago, the City of Belview celebrated its 125th anniversary as a community with a big celebration during its annual festival known as Old SOD Day; while the events for the annual celebration may not be as significant as they were one year ago, there is still plenty of activity taking place for those who attend Old SOD Day this coming weekend.

  • One year ago, the City of Belview celebrated its 125th anniversary as a community with a big celebration during its annual festival known as Old SOD Day.
    While the events for the annual celebration may not be as significant as they were one year ago, there is still plenty of activity taking place for those who attend Old SOD Day this coming weekend.
    What begins Friday night with a bean bag tournament at 7 p.m. and music at Jake’s at 8:30 p.m. continues Saturday with activities scheduled throughout the day.
    Things get started Saturday morning with the Heart of the Prairie Run, with registration at 8 a.m.
    The run/walk, includes a 2K, 5K and 8K contest, with a start time of 10 a.m.
    One of the more popular events during the day Saturday is the Rolling Prairie Country Music Show at the Odeon Hall, There are shows at 1:30 and 3 p.m. Admission to the show is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
    Some of the other Saturday activities include:
    • A diaper derby at 11:15 a.m.
    • A sidewalk art contest from 10 a.m. until noon. (Bring your own chalk).
    • A medallion hunt starting at noon, with clues posted at the information booth every half hour. There is a $50 cash prize.
    • The craft and flea market on main street from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
    • The 19th annual Show and Shine car show from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. If it has wheels, it can be in the show.
    • The traditional softball tournament, with games throughout the day; and the horseshoe tournament from 12:30 until 3 p.m.
    • Weather permitting hot air ballon demonstrations are being held. (Check the information booth for times.)
    • The grand parade is being held at 5 p.m. with classic vehicles and family units.
    Lots of food options are available in town for those who are in attendance.
    Belview’s Old SOD Day is sponsored by the Belview Preservation Commission and the Belview Booster Club.
    Any proceeds from the weekend are  used to enhance community projects and events.
    The public is invited and encouraged to attend Old SOD Day this weekend.
