  • The Redwood County Recycling Center hosted a pesticide container collection this past week, and during the two-day event held in Redwood and Renville counties several semi trailer loads of containers were dropped off.
According to Doug Bunting of the Redwood County Recycling Center the container collection resulted in 20, 1,200 pound bales. That means nearly 24,000 pounds of pesticide containers are now being recycled due to this recent collection.
Those bales are sent to Container Services Network in Greenville, South Carolina where they are ground up and made into drain tile.
Brian Sams of the Redwood County Recycling Center said the pesticide container collection is held once each year, because the pesticide jugs can’t be mixed in with other plastics due to the fact they once contained chemicals.
Sams said Bunting and the rest of the recycling center crew, including Kelly Schunk, Jared Amberg, Lucas Dolan and Michael Schulte, did a fantastic job during the collection.
Sams called the collection an important service, as it allows for the collection of those high-quality plastic containers that can be recycled rather than just thrown away.
