Evelyn Rose Wertish, the daughter of Joseph and Nettie (Kadlec) Kopacek, was born July 20, 1914 on the family farm in Kingman Township, Renville County.
She grew up on the farm and in Olivia. Evelyn received her formal education in Renville County District 68 country school.
On November 28, 1939, Evelyn married Archie Wertish at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn. The couple lived in Redwood Falls, St. Paul, Bechyn and North Redwood.
Archie passed away in 1975 and Evelyn moved into Redwood Falls in 1989. She had worked as a practical nurse until marriage.
After raising her children, Evelyn re-entered the workforce in 1967 as a cook at REM (then the Robert Milton Home).
She retired from REM in 1989.
Evelyn was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church where she belonged to the prayer chain and the CCW.
From the time Evelyn was a young girl, music was her life. She taught herself to play the organ and harmonica and enjoyed all kinds of music.
Most of all, Evelyn loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children Carol (John) Watkins of Montgomery, Ala., Arlene (Eugene) Ebner of Rosemount, Ron Wertish (and special friend Lisa Juenemann) of Redwood Falls, and Debra Wertish of Redwood Falls; grandchildren David, Stephanie, Debra, Kent (Michelle), Kim (Dave), Todd, Tim (Sommer) and Pam (John); great-grandchildren Angela (Chris) and Jonathan, Katie and Eric, Zoe, Marcus and Madolyn, Tenley, and Macey; and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Archie December 5, 1975, one brother, and three sisters.
Blessed be her memory.
