  • Harvey L. Johnson, 83, of Spicer and formerly of Redwood Falls passed away Friday, August 9, 2013 with his family at his side.
    Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 from Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls.
    Inurnment, with military honors, will follow at Crestlawn Gardens, rural Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held from 9 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the church. Arrangements are with Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls. Email condolences may be sent via www.nelsonmartinfuneralservice.com.
    Harvey graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1948. A highlight of his high school career was playing in the 1947 state basketball tournament.
    Following graduation, Harvey attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.
    He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
    Harvey and Dar owned Johnson’s Beauty Lounge in Redwood Falls from 1958-93. His greatest joy was his family. Being an avid sports fan, he supported his children and grandchildren’s athletic endeavors. A highlight every fall was the Army/Navy football game.
    Harvey felt very lucky to retire at his lake home, which became a gathering place for his friends and family.
    Harvey’s strength, humor, and never quit attitude will be with all who knew him forever. “NAME THAT COTTON PICKIN TUNE.”
    Harvey is survived by his loving wife Darlys of 60 years; his children Cindy (Chuck) Briscoe, Stacey Johnson, Sherry (Michael) Jordan, Chad (Krista) Johnson, Derrick (Alyssa) Johnson and his 13 grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents Halvor and Bertha Johnson.
