  • Six years ago, friends and families of three regional fallen soldiers decided to put together a motorcycle ride to commemorate their lost loved ones.
The initials of the soldiers — Brent Koch, Kyle Miller, and Joshua Schmit — gave the events its name: the KMS Ride.
Since then, three other Minnesota soldiers — Matthew Kahler, James Wertish, and Ryane Clark — have been added to the list of the honored.
The sixth annual KMS Ride is set to circle southwestern Minnesota on Saturday, Aug. 10. Anyone who wants to is invited to ride along, or to visit the festivities at any of the planned stops.
The KMS Ride begins and ends in on Main Street in Franklin, with registration going on from 8-10 a.m., with a Dad’s Belgian Waffle Feed fundraiser going on at the same time.
The entry fee of $25 includes lunch and dinner for the all day event.
Once the riders leave Franklin at 10:45 a.m., they will pass through Lake Lillian, Green Lake, and New London for lunch.
After lunch, riders will go through Spicer, Willmar, Raymond, Clara City, Granite Falls, Olivia, Sacred Heart, Renville, Danube, Morton, and back to Franklin.
For more information about the ride, or to donate, see www.kmsride.com.
