  • Driving past the Redwood County fairgrounds these days one might notice what looks like a new building that has been added.
The building one is seeing is not new, but it has been improved.
The old school building, which has housed displays on the fairgrounds for decades, went through a major overhaul in preparation for this year’s fair.
According to Jim Sandgren, Redwood County fair board member, the county received a historical and cultural arts grant as part of the state’s legacy funding to help make the improvements.
In addition to the new exterior, the building has been made handicap accessible, with windows and new doors added to improve ventilation.
Sandgren said the building was erected in 1915, and even though it is called a school house it has never held a day of school. It was built as a place where students could display their projects at the end of the school year.
A number of local businesses also donated toward the project, said Sandgren, agreeing the building does look very nice. The public is encouraged to take a closer look this week.
