  • Redwood Falls to host state American Legion parade

  •  As part of the state American Legion Convention to be held in Redwood Fall July 19-21, Post 38 of Redwood Falls is sending out an invitation to the public to participate in its parade, Friday July 20th.

  •    As part of the state American Legion Convention to be held in Redwood Fall July 19-21, Post 38 of Redwood Falls is sending out an invitation to the public to participate in its parade, Friday July 20th. American Legion Post 38 of Redwood Falls is preparing a float for military veterans to ride on.  Veterans in the surrounding counties who served in World War II and Korea will be given first preference for seating followed by Vietnam era vets, and Iraq and Afghanistan era veterans.   The post would like to have some idea of how many to expect, the float can hold 25 or 30 people.  If you are interested in going on this special ride, call Parade Chairman Duane LeBrun at 507-637-2295 or Post Commander Pat Schmidt at 507-430-4420. The public is also invited to enter floats and other displays. Patriotic floats or entries can consist of anything from a tractor with a flag to more elaborate entries. All entries in parade must have a patriotic theme.  The convention parade will take place Friday evening at 7 p.m. Lineup will take place at 6 p.m. with a gathering point at the parking lots between the Redwood Municipal Swimming pool and Legion Baseball field on DeKalb Avenue.  Convention parade prizes will given out to the top three places in the following categories:   • High School Bands 1st - $800  2nd - $700  3rd - $500    • Patriotic Float 1st - $150  2nd - $100  3rd - $50   • District Legion Competition 1st - $750 2nd - $500 3rd - $250   • Color Guards Trophies to 1st thru 3rd places   • Drill Teams Trophies to 1st thru 3rd places   Redwood Falls Post 38 is not eligible to win in any of the above categories. A form needs to be filled out local entries to be eligible for winning any of the above prizes.   For more information, call parade chairman LeBrun prior to July 10, 2012.
