This coming Saturday morning, the RVHS Class of 1993 is hosting a 5K run/walk in Redwood Falls to commemorate their lost classmates.

The RVHS Class of 1993 is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
That in itself is really not much of a news story.
After all, every year a new class of graduates celebrates that same milestone.
What makes this year's alumni unique is the way in which it has opted to celebrate its anniversary.
This coming Saturday morning, the RVHS Class of 1993 is hosting a 5K run/walk in Redwood Falls.
"When we started planning our reunion, we talked about what we wanted to do," said Kari Foss, who is helping to coordinate the weekend activities for her fellow graduates. "We also talked about our memories of classmates who have died since graduation."
The RVHS Class of 1993 has had its share of tragedies, as several of its members have died.
"We wanted to honor their memory," said Foss, adding the class also wanted to use the opportunity to honor others, including teachers who have also passed away since the class graduated. "We were really struck by the number of our classmates who have died."
The 5K memorial run/walk is set to start at the RVMS/HS campus at 8 a.m., with registration scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. The race also ends at the school.

Foss said in addition to hosting the run/walk, the group planning the reunion also wanted to provide some form of memorial as a result of the event.
Foss said there was talk about establishing a student scholarship, but in the end the option chosen by the group was to donate a portion of the proceeds from the race to the Redwood Area Edu-cation Foundation.
When one looks at the list of names of those from the class who have died, one notices a mix of people who took various paths after they graduated from high school.
“We wanted to be able to honor them all,” Foss said, adding the donation to the foundation can reach a more representative group of the kinds of people being honored.
The donation is also a way the class is able to give back to the school that gave so much to them during the formative years of their lives.
Foss said the trag-edies involving youth in the Redwood area only confirm the need for an event like this.
Those who are interested in being part of the run/walk can register online at, or Foss said one can also find registration information at
Others may also arrive the morning of the event to sign up and take part.
Foss said the hope is to host the Class of 1993 run/walk on a regular basis, but said that is still up in the air.
