  • One hundred and thirty-five years ago, railroad boss T.G. Holland moved a boxcar onto a site a dozen miles southeast of Redwood Falls to start a combination general store and post office.
A settlement — originally named “Holland” — gradually grew up around the store.
When the settlement was incorporated as a village in 1889, the name was changed to Morgan in honor of Lewis Henry Morgan, a soldier, explorer, and author who had travelled across the United States doing research about the American beaver, making stops in Minnesota.
To commemorate the railroad boss and the American beaver scholar who gave the town its existence and name, the residents of Morgan plan to hold an extra special edition of its annual City and Country Days celebration this weekend, June 14-16.
