  • Erlene M. Jensen, 94, of Redwood Falls died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Seasons Hospice house in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday from Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial to follow in the Crestlawn Gardens. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church for one hour prior to services. The family requests memorials be made to Seasons hospice house or a local organization of choice.
Erlene Marie Miller Jensen was born to William P. Miller and Elsie Steffer Miller May 9, 1919, in Brainerd. Erlene attended the Red Brick School in Aitkin County and high school in McGregor while helping care for her ill mother and eight siblings. At a young age, Erlene worked in Duluth, Hugo and Redwood Falls. She married Alvin Jensen December 30, 1938 in Duluth. They farmed together in rural Redwood Falls until Alvin’s death in 1965.
Erlene was a busy and active farm wife for much of her life; after the death of her husband Alvin, she stayed on the farm to raise two daughters who were still at home.
She later moved into Redwood Falls and soon alternated between homes in Minnesota and Arizona. Erlene returned to Redwood Falls permanently in 2006 to be near her children. Her motto continued to be “I’d rather be in Arizona.”
Throughout her life, she was an avid bowler, fisherwoman, golfer, gourmet cook, gardener and camper. She was a good and helpful friend and an always caring mother.
Her life experiences made her an independent and organized woman. Erlene was a member of Gloria Dei Church, as well as the VFW Auxiliary and the Home Extension.
Erlene is survived by her children Joyce (Harry) Johnson of Redwood Falls, Calvin “Chico” (Sandra) Jensen of Redwood Falls, Margaret (Joe) Johnson of Denver, Colo., Jolene Jensen of Redwood Falls; her grandchildren James (Marcy) Jensen of Redwood Falls and Ingrid (Danny Bamonte) Jensen of Los Angeles, Calif.; her three great-grandchildren Caleb and Logan Jensen and Giovanna Jensen-Bamonte; her brother Franklin “Jiggs”  (Eve) Miller of Duluth; 34 nieces and nephews and their families and other relations and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Jensen September 28, 1965; her parents; sister Florence Miller Dyke and six brothers, William, John, Richard, Robert, Harold and Gerald Miller.
