Two defendants appeared in Redwood County Fifth District Court Monday to face felony charges in connection with an alleged theft of electrical power from the Redwood Electric Cooperative.
Timothy Dean Wertish, 42, of Redwood Falls was charged with one count of felony theft, and Terry Dean Johnson, 65, of Springfield was charged with one count of aiding and abetting felony theft in separate complaints filed by the Redwood County Attorney’s Office.
Both men were arrested over the weekend after investigations by the Redwood County Sheriff’s Department and Redwood Falls Police Department.
The allegations state the two defendants conspired to steal electrical power from the electric cooperative at Wertish’s home in Redwood County.
It is anticipated the two are going to be charged with felony counts for a similar scheme in which it is alleged Wertish stole electrical power from Redwood Falls Public Utilities at his business, Redwood Auto Sales, in Redwood Falls.
The county attorney is preparing and is soon going to be filing complaints against Debra Ellen Wertish, 61, of Redwood Falls and Sommer Dawn Wertish, 32, of Redwood Falls for obstructing and tampering with evidence in connection with the thefts.
The defendants were released on bail and are scheduled to make their next appearance in court June 17.
