  • “A Celebration of the life of Don” will be held at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Marshall Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Don died January 30, 2013 very peacefully at Life Care Hospital in McAllen, Texas after suffering a massive stroke at their winter home in Weslaco, Texas December 29, 2012. Hamilton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

  • “A Celebration of the life of Don” will be held at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Marshall Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. with visitation starting at 10 a.m.
    Donald Harry “Gabe” Gabriel was born April 5, 1929, in Battle Lake.
    He graduated from Minnesota School for the Blind in Faribault May 28, 1948. He moved to Marshall in 1951 fixing radios and tuning many pianos for more than 60 years.
    On July 20, 1984, Gabe was united in marriage to Lucille Berge-Hexum. Don also had his own band and played in many others both in Minnesota and Texas.
    Don died January 30, 2013 very peacefully at Life Care Hospital in McAllen, Texas after suffering a massive stroke at their winter home in Weslaco, Texas December 29, 2012.
    Grateful for being in his life are his wife, Lucille; daughter, Gabrielle’ B. (and James) Heard; stepchildren, Sheryl Tverberg, Daryl Otten, Cindy Tubbs, Gwendolyn Janigian, Ben (and Jennifer) Hexum; step-grandchildren, Dr. Tammy Zimmel, Travis and Jessica Tubbs, Matthew (and Luisa), Rachel and Rebecca Bueno, Peter and Leah Janigian, Andrew, Devin and Derek Hexum; great-grandson, Ryan Bueno; brother-in-law, Lyle Berge; uncle, Jim Anderson; nephews, Terry (and Sue) Nelson and Tom (and Beth) Nelson and many other relatives.
    Don was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Martin and Etta Berge; step-granddaughter, Kim Tverberg; sister and brother-in-law, Merv and Betty Nelson; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Mich Hasch; uncles and aunts; and two wives, Linnea and Shirley.
    Don made many friends with his very positive attitude and with his excellent piano tuning, playing piano and his horns and with his singing.  Don will be greatly missed.
