Somewhere along the line, people started thinking of a mimosa as merely orange juice and sparkling wine. The original Mimosa—which legend credits to the Hotel Ritz in Paris—also calls for a touch of Cointreau, an orange flavored liqueur. What a difference that makes, emboldening the fruit flavor and adding virility to the drink.
This take on the Mimosa—pretty in pink and perfect for Mother’s Day—follows that lead by adding Chambord to the citrus-juice/sparkling wine mix. Cheers!
2 ounces chilled fresh pink or red grapefruit juice
1/2 ounce Chambord (or another dark-berry liqueur, such as crème de cassis)
3 to 5 ounces chilled sparkling wine
Grapefruit twist, for garnish
Pour the grapefruit juice and Chambord into a chilled Champagne flute. Slowly add the sparkling wine and gently stir to blend. Garnish the glass with a grapefruit twist.
