Fay Stoneberg works in the Redwood Area Hospital's OB department, which means she works with expecting moms – helping them as they go through the labor process; "I really enjoy being involved in that gift of life. Every birth is a miracle.”
While still in high school growing up in Redwood Falls, Fay Stoneberg had a pretty good idea of what she wanted to do with her life.
“I worked in high school as a nursing assistant,” Stoneberg said, adding she also was part of a big family and took on the role of caring for her siblings.
Those experiences confirmed her career path as a nurse, and for the past 15 years Stoneberg has been providing the kind of care people need as they spend time in a medical facility.
Stoneberg began her career at Wood Dale nursing home after earning her degree as a registered nurse, and for the past 13 years she has served in the role of nurse for the Redwood Area Hospital.
What started in acute care, where she worked with various medical issues, changed 10 years ago, and the role she fills today is one she truly enjoys.
Stoneberg works in the OB department, which means she works with expecting moms – helping them as they go through the labor process.
“I really enjoy being involved in that gift of life,” Stoneberg said. “Every birth is a miracle.”
As a mom herself, Stoneberg said she is able to offer some personal experiences for those first-time moms as they go through the birthing process.
“I think I can relate to what they are going through, because I have gone through it,” she said.
She knows no two birth experiences are alike, but just knowing what moms might be feeling can help her as she tries to provide for those moms what they need.
Stoneberg admitted there are challenges one experiences in the OB department, but it is a job she enjoys.
“I love what I do,” she said, adding she believes this is her calling.
Stoneberg said it takes a special kind of nurse to do every job at the hospital, but in the end the role of a nurse in every area is similar.
“We are here to take care of people,” she said, “and to help improve the reason why they are here.”
For Stoneberg it is all about helping people.
