  • Kenneth John Castle, 83, passed away Saturday March 23, 2013 at his home in Redwood Falls of natural causes. Kenneth was born July 29, 1929 to Fay and Hattie (Taubert) Castle.
    He attended public school in North Redwood.
    On August 15, 1951 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Pauline Pigg of White River, S.D.
    Ken and his brothers owned and operated Castle Brothers Construction Company for many years. They took great pride in their stellar craftsmanship which can be seen throughout South Dakota and Minnesota.
    Ken and his brother Floyd, continued working as Castle Brothers Construction until they retired in their 70s. After retirement, the two became avid fishermen. Ken continued to do woodwork. He greatly enjoyed cooking and became quite an accomplished cook. His granddaughter still boasts, “no one can cook a pot roast like my grandpa.” Friends and family of Ken will also say, he never forgot a good joke.
    In keeping with his wishes, Kenneth was cremated and his ashes will be buried with his son, Kenneth Clark Castle, at the Redwood Falls Cemetery. Private family services will be held at the gravesite for the burial Friday, May 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. Immediately following the services, a public lunch and memorial is scheduled from Noon until 4 p.m. at the Redwood Falls Public Library meeting room, 509 Lincoln Street.
    Kenneth is survived by his five daughters: Connie Castle (Kevin Lance) of Monticello, Virginia (Lowell) Daniels of Columbus, Kansas, Joni (James) Jimnak of Maple Grove, Kathryn Castle (Lee Terro) of Sauk Centre, Karen Castle (Denes Bartha) of New Fairfield,  Conn., 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, his sisters: Helen VanSlooten, Esther (Warren) Hawton, Cheryl Prescott, all of Redwood Falls.
    Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his son Kenny, and siblings: Lillian Grow, Don, Arthur, Harold, Alfred "Fritz", Floyd, Clara, Arlene Stevens, and Viola Worth.
