Lester K. Hansen, 94, of Redwood Falls, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Sunwood Nursing Home in Redwood Falls after being in ill health for several weeks.
Lester Kent Hansen was born May 5, 1918, in Morgan to Axel and Emma Hansen, and was raised there, graduating from Morgan Public School in 1936. Upon graduation, he attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis for one year.
On April 19, 1941, he was married to Lucille Vanderwerf of Sleepy Eye and resided in Morgan, where he worked for a year for Lampert Lumber, operated a cream route for five years, the Mobil gas station for 23 years, then went to work as a sales manager for Redwood Concrete Products for 15 years, until his retirement in 1981.
Les continued to reside in Morgan until 1998 when he and Lucille sold their home and moved to Redwood Falls.
Lucille passed away in 2010 at the age of 92. Les continued to live in their apartment until December 2011, when he moved to Johnson Park Place, where he remained until becoming unable to live alone. He entered Sunwood Nursing Home March 18 of this year.
Les was very fond of his membership in the Morgan Fire Department, joining when he turned 21 in 1939 and remained active until the late 60s, when he retired from the department.
He loved to reminisce about Morgan in the “old days”, his fishing trips to Canada, his deer hunting trips to Wyoming and Lake Vermillion, his winter fishing evenings to Lake Reno, his trips to the 1965 World Series and his various trips taken after his retirement.
He is survived by his son Robert (Bonnie) of Redwood Falls, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Les was preceded in death by his parents, Axel and Emma, his spouse Lucille, four brothers Raymond, James, Norman and Victor and his son Michael.
Arrangements have been made with Cremation Society of Minnesota. There will be no memorial service. There will be a private family burial at a later date.
