  • Elaine L. Schwandt, 84, of Litchfield, died on April 17, 2013 at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Interment was in Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield.

  • Elaine L. Schwandt, 84, of Litchfield, died on April 17, 2013 at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.  Interment was in Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield.
    Elaine Lenore Schwandt, the daughter of Edgar and Mabel (Anderson) Olson, was born on November 3, 1928 in Greenleaf Township, Meeker County. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1946 and continued her education at St. Cloud State College.  She taught in Ortonville from 1948 to 1950.  Elaine was united in marriage to Earl Schwandt in the Litchfield United Methodist Church on August 27, 1950. They moved to Greenleaf where they lived on her family farm. She was a substitute teacher at the Evenson country school while she was raising her young family.
    She went back to school in the mid-1960s to finish her teaching degree. Elaine was a teachers assistant at Lake Ripley Elementary School from 1969 until she  retired. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church where she taught Sunday school and eventually transferred membership to Zion Lutheran Church where she was a member of WELCA. She was a regular in attendance for the Wednesday services and later enjoyed listening to the services on the radio.  
    She was active with her children and was a 4-H leader. Elaine enjoyed gardening and planting flowers. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always had an encouraging and supporting word.
    She is survived by her husband Earl of Litchfield; children, William “Bill” (and Christine) Schwandt of Morton, Brian (and Beverly) Schwandt of Litchfield, and Janell Schwandt of Montrose; step-son Don (and Shirley) Classen of Apple Valley; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  
    She was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Mabel; daughter Gail Schwandt; and sisters Jeanne Goemer and Merrilyn Parker.
