The swayback bridge rehabilitation project is going to happen in 2013.
After being closed to vehicle traffic since it was discovered there was significant damage to the bridge deck, the Redwood County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the low bid for the project at its meeting Tuesday.
The bid is for bridge deck replacement and substructure repair. According to the bid opening record, the project has a start date of July 18, with an end date of Sept. 27.
According to Willy Raben-berg, Redwood County highway department engineer, the project is complicated because of the historic nature of the bridge, and he said as a result of that the project was hard to estimate. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $526,015, and the low bid accepted by the county board was $666,161 from Robert E. Schroeder Construction of Glenwood. Rabenberg said this is the same construction company which did the Minnesota River bridge work in 2013.
There was only one other bid submitted for the project.
