After a six month search, on Tuesday the Redwood Falls City Council named Bryan Lydick of Indian River, Michigan, the new CEO of the Redwood Area Hospital, starting June 3.
Lydick most recently served at Chief Business Development Officer at two rural hospitals in northern Michigan.
Among other responsibilities, Lydick led a $3 million capital campaign to renovate Mercy Hospital Cadillac's emergency room and obstetrics department, and created a hospital foundation with over $10 million in assets.
"The successful work I have been a part of is due to the great people involved," said Lydick. "I strongly believe that partnerships and bringing people together harbors success. I'm thrilled to be joining an organization that has shown such dedication to bringing exceptional healthcare to the rural community."
Redwood Falls City Administrator Keith Muetzel said, "Our ability to attract someone with Bryan's track record and knowledge reflects so highly on everyone involved with the hospital.
"We had three very strong candidates, but Bryan was clearly the top choice of all the groups that participated in the selection process," said Muetzel.
"The hospital will be in great hands with Bryan," said Chico Jensen, Redwood Area Hospital Commission chair. "His natural leadership ability and passion for rural healthcare impressed everyone involved with the search."
Lydick and his wife, Nicole, have three children: Samantha, 13, Mackenzie, 11, and Brode, six.
Lydick received his bachelor's degree in Health Promotion and Rehabilitation from Central Michigan University and a Masters degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Minnesota- School of Public Health.
In other city news, the council:
• Heard a proposal from the Trident Development corporation to create a $6 million, 72-unit rental housing project in the city, on property they hope to purchase from the school district.
The proposed project would be developed in two phases: the first 38 units would be constructed this year, with the second phase starting when there is sufficient demand.
Trident Development is requesting the provision of tax increment financing assistance from the city.
The subsidy the developer is proposing ($900,000 plus interest) could be provided in less than 26 years if the second phase of the project is developed in a timely manner.
One provision of the subsidy would provide that 20 percent of the housing units go to families earning less than 50 percent of the median county income.
The public hearing is scheduled for June 4 at 5 p.m. in the city council chamber.
• Authorized a project proposed by Eagle Scout candidate Cole Kvistero for a "Community Roadside Landscaping Partnership Program" for the Y-intersection near downtown Redwood Falls.
Kvistero will work with city staff and the Minnesota Department of Transportation to create a site plan, work with local vendors on landscaping, and will be in charge of securing volunteers and developing a safety plan.
Page 2 of 2 - • Approved a $6,100 project by KLM Engineering to inspect the city water tower and underground reservoir. The last inspection was done in 2000.
• Declared the five-bay storage building currently being used as part of the city shop and streets department storage facility as surplus property, contingent on whether construction bids for a new street, shop, and maintenance facility meet approval.
• Approved a license to Tammy Tordsen, DBA RIver Bend Therapeutic Massage, LLC, to conduct a therapeutic massage firm from April 17 through Dec. 31, 2013.
• Declared a portable massage table with head and arm rests owned by the Redwood Area Hospital to be surplus property, originally purchased in 2000 for $633, and now with a remaining value of $132.
• Approved a new agreement with the Redwood Falls Softball Association, last updated in 2008, to recognized the association is less involved with day-to-day management of the softball leagues, and concerned today more with fundraising and long-term planning.
