  • Brian Noel Hester, 46, of Redwood Falls pleaded guilty April 3 in Renville County District Court under an agreement with the Renville County Attorney’s Office to a felony charge of fleeing law enforcement in a motor vehicle and DWI.The case stems from a Dec. 3, 2012 incident when Hester led officers on a 38-mile chase that began near Franklin and came to a conclusion in Redwood Falls. The chase started when a law enforcement officer observed a vehicle with “Whisky” plates, and further investigation revealed the owner of that vehicle, the defendant, had his driver’s license cancelled. After a traffic stop was initiated, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed with the vehicle heading toward Morton. The report stated speeds up to 70 miles an hour were observed, in-cluding through town. The pursuit continued, and after avoiding a first set of stop sticks, a subsequent set in Redwood Falls were effective in making the tires flat, with officers then using a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle and place the driver under arrest.According to Laurence Stratton, Renville County assistant attorney, the agreement calls for a 35 month prison sentence. That sentencing is scheduled for May. Other counts, including second degree assault, were dismissed.
