  • Lois Manthei, 95, of Danube, died at her home Friday, April 5, 2013. Funeral services were Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church in Danube with Pastor Dean Nosek officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Lois L. Manthei was born July 14, 1917 in Winfield, Iowa to Armendt and Ima (Bliss) King. When she was three the family moved to the Redwood Falls area where she attended school through the third grade. Then the family moved to Renville County and she graduated from Renville High School in 1936.
After high school Lois assisted several families with housework and also worked in a cafe at Redwood Falls for one year.
Lois married Gordon Manthei November 22, 1940 at Danube and they were blessed with three children. They farmed and resided south of Danube, and Gordon preceded her in death in 1994. After Gordon died she moved into town and has maintained her own home ever since.
Lois had worked at the RenVilla Nursing Home as a cook for eight years and several summers at the Olivia Canning Company.
Lois was a faithful member of Zion United Methodist Church in Danube. She enjoyed watching and feeding birds, tending her vegetable garden, doing needlework, visiting with her friends on the phone and was an avid reader. Lois especially enjoyed baking sweets... “just to be prepared if company would drop by.” She had truly enjoyed being a farmer’s wife, and while in town she continued to mow her own lawn up until last year. Lois died peacefully at her own home Friday, April 5, 2013.
Lois is survived by her three children: Karen (and Bob) Craven of Rochester, Sandi Manthei of Chicago, Ill. and Roger (and Helen) Manthei of Danube; her five grandchildren: Michael (and Clancy) Craven, Amy (and Rick) Johnson, Pamela (and Brian) Frank, Amanda (and Dan) Ellenbaum, and Sean Peterson; and her five great-grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon, and her siblings: Merlin King, Vergil King, Melvin King, Vernon King, Doris Herr and Eunice Wenz.
    Blessed be her memory.
