Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Church of the Sacred Heart in Glenwood for Gertrude Margery “Trudy” Jenniges.
Trudy was born in Sheridan Township, Redwood County, March 18,1934 to Orman Bernard and Marery Elisabeth (Swartz) Fixsen, the second of eight children.
In her youth she helped with the usual household and farm chores of that era. She enjoyed fishing in the Redwood River, which ran through her parents farm, playing softball “kitten ball” with her siblings etc. and was considered the “Tomboy” of the family. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and driving the farm tractor. She was an avid reader and enjoyed both reading and writing poetry.
Trudy attended elementary school at Seaforth and high school at Wabasso and graduated as salutatorian of her class. She enjoyed drama, and acted in school and class plays at both schools. She also participated in declamation, school newspaper, GAA and various other activities. After graduation she was employed in the bookkeeping department at Pietrus Produce in Sleepy Eye.
On May 9, 1953, Trudy was united in marriage to Yvo Bertrand Jenniges at St. Mathias Church in Wanda. Nine children were born to this union.
The couple made their home on his parents farm in Willow Lake Township.
In 1955 they bought a farm east of Wanda, where they lived and farmed until February 1967. They then moved to a farm south of Sedan and resided there until 1970 when they bought a farm in Gilchrist Township in Pope County.
After November 2010 Trudy spent most of her time in hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living. In March of 2012, Yvo and Trudy moved to Lakeview Good Samaritan nursing home in Glenwood, where Trudy passed away March 21, 2013, surrounded by her family.
When she was younger Trudy was on a softball team, and worked as a waitress at the Wanda Legion Club. She was a member of Christian Mothers and held local offices in that organization. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and decorated cakes for many special occasions. She continued to write poetry and in later years had several poems published.
