Edmund “Ed” Schultz, Jr., 81, of rural Redwood Falls passed away surrounded by his family Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. Funeral Services were held Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church in Redwood Falls. Interment was in the Redwood Falls Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com. Edmund “Ed” Schultz Jr. was born February 26, 1932 in Wabasso to Edmund, Sr. and Florence (Brix) Schultz. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wabasso. Ed attended Wabasso Public Schools.
In January 1952, Ed joined the US Navy serving on a ship during the Korean War. On April 3, 1952, Ed was united in marriage to Arlene Poulsen in Morgan. Ed received his honorable discharge from the service in December 1956. He then returned to the Redwood area where he farmed from 1957 until his retirement in 1985.
Ed continued living on the farm and helping with the farming duties. Ed loved baseball. In his earlier years, he was a pitcher for the Navy team. He continued playing town team baseball and later fastpitch softball around the area. Ed was a member of the Wabasso American Legion. He enjoyed bowling with his buddies and spending time with his family. He especially loved going to the grandkids’ sporting events. He also enjoyed visiting with friends and family, going to the lake home, fishing, hunting and watching sports.
Ed is survived by his wife Arlene of 60 years; son Michael Schultz of Redwood Falls; daughter Cheryl (Dustin) Bosshart of Mankato; grandchildren: Brandi (Preston) Rossow of Windom, Brooke Baune of Marshalltown, Iowa, Brent (Brittni) Baune of Storden; great-grandchildren: Carten and Alex Rossow and Gianna Baune; sisters: Arleen Danell of Wyoming, Jeannine (Dave) Leckbee of Arizona and Pat Henke of Minnesota and other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents and son Sidney Schultz.
