Clare Kodet, 87, of Bechyn passed away peacefully Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Redwood Falls Hospital in Redwood Falls. Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn with Pastor Michael Doyle as celebrant. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arrangements were with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia. The family requests all memorials be made to St. Mary’s Preservation Society of Bechyn.
Clare Theresa Kodet was born to Michael and Katherine (Dillon) Neville February 25, 1926 at Olivia. Clare graduated from Olivia High School in 1943. Clare married Jerome T. Kodet September 16, 1947 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia.
They resided on the family farm near Bechyn for 60 years where they raised six children. Clare was Jerome’s right hand and still managed to take care of her children and household.
She was an astute believer in right from wrong and a strong voice of truth, whether you wanted to hear it or not. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Bechyn and also St. Catherine’s Catholic Church of Redwood Falls where she served on the Altar Society and taught religion classes to young children of the parish.
A devout Catholic, she prayed the rosary daily and believed in St. Theresa’s power to answer prayers. Clare was a pioneer and advocate for special needs children during the 1960s when no laws were in place for children with disabilities.
Clare communicated weekly by writing letters to local soldiers during the Vietnam Conflict, Gulf, and Iraqi Wars. She always watched CNN for current events. Clare’s hobbies were playing Bingo for relaxation, and card games of Bony, Schnatzel or Euchre…always for a token.
A special joy for Clare was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Clare and Jerome’s travels took them to New Orleans, Mississippi, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Boston, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Alabama, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Las Vegas, Germany, Luxembourg, France....and of course Jackpot Junction.
Jerome passed away in 2008 and Clare remained on the family farm hosting friends and family for holidays and celebrations.
Clare is survived by her children: Linda Ahrens of Redwood Falls; Monica Morrissey of Grand Forks, N.D.; Jeff (and Gwen) Kodet of Morton; Tim (and Barb) Kodet of Rochester and Tom Kodet of Worthington; her nine grandchildren: Craig Ahrens, Shawn and Chris Morrissey, Jesse and Lindsey Kodet, Tyler (Michelle) Kodet, Leah (Andrew) Nigon, Amy (Brendon) Kodet Kreb and Blake (Jenny) Mahoney; her 14 great-grandchildren and awaiting the birth of two more baby girl great-grandchildren; her sister Elaine Meier of Sauk Centre; her brother-in-law LeRoy Nere of Danube; her cousin, Sister Dennis of St. Paul; and her sisters-in-law Stasia Swoboda and Rita Kellner.
