Lynn M. Larsen, 57, of Stewartville died Friday, March 22, 2013 from complications following a two year illness with lung cancer, at Seasons Hospice in Roch-ester where he had been a patient for one day.
Lynn was born March 11, 1956 in Lucan to Lynden and Erna (Hengel) Larsen. He grew up on the family farm before moving with his family as a young boy into Lucan. He attended school there and graduated from Wabasso High School in 1974.
He worked in construction as a welder before joining his dad’s business as a bulk oil delivery driver for Standard Oil Co. Lynn was married August 14, 1976 in Wabasso to Judy T. Salfer, whom he met in high school. Following their marriage they lived in Lucan where Lynn was employed in 1978 by Crop Mate as a chemical applier and began his life’s career in agronomy. After 13 years in Lucan, Lynn was employed in Pittsburgh, Kansas and then Hutchinson before the Larsens moved to Stewartville in 1997 and where they continued to make their home.
Lynn was employed as a sales consultant for MN Chem and most recently at Winona River and Rail in Winona which has now become CHS, Inc. Lynn always commented on how much he loved working in the agronomy industry and how great it was to work with people you considered friends. Judy has been employed for 15 years at Rochester Medical in Stewartville.
Lynn was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Stewartville and always was involved in summer athletics and booster clubs wherever they lived believing that was part of the life in a small town. He was a past member of the Lions and the Lucan Fire Department.
He was a huge Vikings fan and enjoyed all sports and outdoor activities including golf, hunting, fishing, going to ball games and just being with friends and family.
One of Lynn’s greatest joys was the birth of his granddaughter, Abby and the special times they shared together. They had a very special bond.
Lynn is survived by his wife Judy; his daughter Nicole and granddaughter Abby of Stewartville; his mother Erna Larsen of Redwood Falls; four sisters – Colleen (Tom) Zupfer of New Ulm; Marge (Larry) Weber of Sanborn; Joyce (Steve) Gorres of Redwood Falls; Gail (Steve) Fisher of Wabasso and many nieces and nephews.
