  • Rosella Mude, 94, of Morton died Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Seasons in Redwood Falls. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morton with burial following in the Morton City Cemetery. Arrangements were with Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls. E-mail condolences may be sent via www.nelsonmartinfuneralservice.com.
Rosella Helena Mude, the daughter of Frank and Floragunde (Plageman) Lothert, was born November 26, 1918 in Birch Cooley Township, Renville County. She was baptized December 29, 1918 at Zion Lutheran Church in Morton.
Rosella grew up on the family farm in Norfolk Township and received her early formal education at the nearby country school.
She attended Morton High School, graduating in 1935 in the top of her class. Rosella enrolled in teachers’ training in Redwood Falls and then, for the next six years, taught in several Renville County schools.
On July 10, 1946, Rosella married Emil Mude at the St. Paul Lutheran Church parsonage in Springfield. They farmed in the Sanborn, Graceville and Browns Valley areas before returning to farm near Morton.
During those years Rosella worked as a waitress and cook at many restaurants. In 1967 she began working as a cook at the Redwood County Nursing Home.
When the “county home” closed, Rosella’s job relocated to Wood Dale Nursing Home. She retired in 1980 and Rosella and Emil spent most of their retirement years in Morton.
In 2006, they moved to Johnson Park Place in Redwood Falls, and in March 2011 Rosella moved to Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center. She was admitted to the Redwood Area Hospital February 13, 2013 and moved to Season’s Hospice February 25, 2013.
Rosella was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Morton where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She belonged to the art club and enjoyed socializing at the Morton Senior Center. Rosella liked crocheting, reading, gardening, shopping, fishing and camping with her children. She enjoyed going on annual family vacations – which she continued until the age of 92.
Rosella lost her sight in 1991 to diabetes but still enjoyed books via “books on tape.” She also enjoyed listening to the Minnesota Twins and the Redwood Valley girls and boys basketball games.
Rosella was a gentle and loving woman. Her love for her family and for her Lord and Savior was evident throughout her life and reflected in the way she lived. Rosella will be sadly missed by her family.
She is survived by her children Karen (Lyle) Greenslit of Franklin, Doug (Joann) Mude of Redwood Falls, Dave (Jan) Mude of Morton, Arlene Woelfel of Redwood Falls and Lois (Dick) Rebstock of Morton.
Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Verna Mude of Springfield.
Rosella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Emil in July 2010; five brothers; four sisters; and son-in-law Gale Woelfel.
