On September 28, 1940, Irene married Lloyd Peterson in Morton and they farmed in the Morton and Franklin area. The Franklin farm was homesteaded by Lloyd’s grandfather’s grandfather, Halleck Peterson, in 1867.
Irene and Lloyd moved into Franklin in 1982 where Irene worked at the Franklin Healthcare Center as a housekeeper for 20 years, retiring in the early 1990s. She moved into Wood Dale Home in Redwood Falls in 2007.
Irene was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and the ladies’ society in Franklin. She was active with the ladies’ group at church and with the Franklin Senior Citizen Club. Irene’s apartment was full of flowers and rooster decor. She loved baking pies and buns, and Irene passed on the tradition of frying lefse to her grandchildren.
Irene is survived by her sons Halleck of St. Paul and Gerald (Patricia) of Redwood Falls; grandchildren Janine (Steve) Johnston of Rushford and Justin Peterson (Jennifer Myhre) of Redwood Falls; great-grandchildren Braden and Braelynn Peterson of Redwood Falls and her sister Lorraine Dahlgren of Prentice, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd and eight brothers and sisters.
Blessed be her memory.
