James Darwin Colby, 71, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013 at his home in New London.
A funeral service was held Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer.
James was born July 8, 1941 in Blue Earth, the son of Woodrow and Angela (Soukup) Colby. He grew up in Fridley where he attended Fridley High School, graduating in 1959.
On September 21, 1963, Jim was united in marriage to Yvonne Thole in Minneapolis. To this union a daughter, Wanda, was born. They made their home in the cities until moving to Redwood Falls where Jim worked as a service manager for Schult Homes for more than 20 years.
In 1994 they moved to Spicer and then to New London in 2007 where they enjoyed retirement together, and Jim was the caretaker to Duaine Nelson’s Mini Storage. Jim and Dolly were able to share 49 and a half years of marriage.
Jim was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Spicer and New London American Legions.
Jim enjoyed fishing, playing Farkle, Yahtzee and cards. His passion was to hold and to go to garage sales where he loved to meet so many wonderful people.
He is remembered for his big heart and willingness to always help others.
He is survived by his wife, Dolly; daughter, Wanda (Randy) Wandersee of Redwood Falls; two grandchildren, Stephanie Wandersee and Emily Wandersee; great-granddaughter, Chey-enne Parker and siblings, Jean (Fran) Faymoville and Sandy (Joe) Cogger; many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
