The Renville County Sheriff’s Department is releasing information pursuant to Minnesota Statute 244.052. This statute authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a Level 3 sexual or predatory offender’s release from prison or a secure treatment facility when law enforcement believes the release of information would enhance public safety and protection.Jeffrey Joseph Lingl moved into rural Bird Island (Bird Island Township, Renville County) Jan. 18, 2013. Lingl has been convicted of criminal sexual conduct or another offense that requires registration with law enforcement pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 243.166 or 243.167. He has a history of sexual contact with female victims (ages four through adult). Contact included fondling and penetration. This offender was known to his victims.This offender is not wanted by the police at this time and has served the sentence imposed on him by the court. This notification is not intended to increase fear in the community. Rather, the Renville County Sheriff’s Department believes an informed public is a safer public.Neither the Renville County Sheriff’s Depart-ment, the supervising re-lease agent nor the Minnesota Department of Corrections may direct where this offender does or does not reside, nor can these agencies direct where he works or goes to school. The risk level of this offender has been determined based largely on his potential to re-offend based on his previous criminal behavior.A community notification meeting regarding this offender has been scheduled for Feb. 7, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Bird Island Municipal Building.
