Dorothy Ann Eichten was born March 5, 1923 near Andover, S.D., one of 12 children to Julius and Lucy (Zimney) Dylla. She died January 21, 2013 at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury.Dorothy was a graduate of Northern State Teachers College. She started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse. She married Wendeline “Wink” Eichten September 15, 1952. They lived in Morton where she taught school. While teaching and raising two daughters, she continued to take summer college courses and graduated with her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Mankato State University in 1972. Dorothy retired from teaching in 1986.Dorothy had been an active parishioner of St. John’s in Morton. As a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, she made hundreds of rosaries for missions, braided palms for the Easter altar and taught CCD classes.Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Mary (Jim) Gelbmann of Woodbury and Joan (Adam) Baumstarck of Gainesville, Fla.; six grandchildren; brothers, George (Dorothy) Dylla and Lawrence (Sharon) Dylla and sister, Helen (Kay) VanDover. She was preceded in death by her husband Wink, six brothers and two sisters.A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Dorothy at 11 a.m. Jan. 24 at The Church of St. Rita in Cottage Grove. Interment was at the St. Mathias Catholic Cemetery in Wanda (Willow Lake Township) at 1 p.m. Friday, January 25.Memorials may be directed to St. Mathias or Dorothy Day Center.
