Inauguration Day

In years after presidential elections, Jan. 20 is Inauguration Day. This Senate website has information about the day, famous inauguration speeches and more. The inauguration festivities will take place on Monday the 21st, but President Barack Obama will officially be sworn in this day.

2: Number of presidential inaugurations that have been held indoors – both times because of extreme weather. They were William Howard Taft’s inauguration in 1909 and Ronald Reagan’s in 1985.

This Day in History

Jan. 20, 1937: Franklin Roosevelt is inaugurated for a second term as president. This is the first inauguration on Jan. 20. The date was changed from March 4 by the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
