  • SWROC schedules winter crops and soils day

  • The Southwest Research and Outreach Center (SWROC) in Lamberton is going to host Winter Crops and Soils Day Feb. 5 at Blue Mound Banquet and Meeting Center in Luverne, Feb. 6 at the SWROC in Lamberton  and Feb. 7 at Bootlegger’s Supper Club in Granite Falls.  
    Winter Crops and Soils Day is a public event highlighting current U of M research that is specific to southwestern Minnesota.  
    Leading experts from the university are scheduled to be on hand to present information and answer questions.
    The program is going to address a variety of current agricultural production challenges facing producers. Registration be-gins at 9 a.m. with the workshop running from 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
     Speakers from the U of M St. Paul campus and research and outreach centers are set to cover topics including the farm bill, drainage and water quality, pest management, drought and weed management. Speakers in-clude: Dr. Jeff Strock, Bruce Potter, Kent Thiesse, Mark Seely or Dennis Todey, Jeff Gun-solus and Ken Ostlie.
    SWROC’s Winter Crops and Soils Day is open to the public. The event’s $20 registration fee covers handouts and lunch.
    Pre-registration is required. Continuing education units for certified crop advisers are going to be provided in the areas of soil and water (0.5 CEUs), pest management (1.5 CEUs), and crop management (1.0 CEUs).
