Carl “Julian” Distad, 97, of Fairfax, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
Funeral services are Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Palmyra Covenant Church, Palmyra Township, Renville County, with Pastor Steve Hoden from Palmyra Covenant Church and Pastor Blake Peterson from New Life Community Church in Hector officiating. Interment is in the church cemetery.
Carl “Julian” Distad was born July 2, 1915, in Bandon Township, Renville County. He was the son of Lars and Louise (Thompson) Distad.
He received his education at a country school near Franklin.
On August 28, 1947, Julian was united in marriage to Lillian Lundstrom at Palmyra Covenant Church. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Camp Township, Renville County. He retired from farming but continued to help Larry on the farm. They were blessed with two children. Julian and Lillian shared 53 years of marriage before Lillian passed away May 1, 2001.
Julian enjoyed farming, fishing, visiting Colorado and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He also enjoyed visiting with people and spreading the word of God.
When he needed assistance with his daily care, Julian became a resident of Countryview Estates and passed away at the Fairfax Community Home Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at the age of 97 years.
Julian is survived by his daughter, Margie Cotton and her husband, Reggie of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandsons, Troy Brovold and his wife, Aubrey of Colorado Springs and their children, Laelle, Tyce, Jayse and Kasen; Sean Bro-vold and his wife, Tammy of Wood Lake and their children, Madison, Karsyn and Peyton; Matthew Cotton of Colorado Springs; step-grandson, Darrel Cotton of Denver, Colo.; sisters, Gertrude Stuth of Minneapolis and Inga Beltz of Fairfax; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Julian was preceded in death by his parents, Lars and Louise Distad; wife, Lillian Distad; son, Kenneth Distad and brothers, Joseph Distad and Arthur Distad.
