Ruth Carroll MacDougall McCartin passed away November 4, 2012 in Dana Point, Calif.
She was born in Redwood Falls December 17, 1925, attended Redwood Falls schools and graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul in 1947.
After graduation, she worked in department store advertising in St. Paul; taught first grade in Quantico, Va.; worked in newspaper display advertising in Costa Mesa, Calif. and returned to teaching in high school alternative-charter schools after attending the University of California in Irvine and the University of Indiana.
Ruth was active in the Costa Mesa Historical Society, the San Juan Capistrano Historical Society as a tour guide, the Costa Mesa Girls Club, Costa Mesa Presbyterian Church of the Covenant and Community Presbyterian Church of San Juan Capistrano.
She is survived by four sons: Michael (Catherine), Mark (Cheryl), Casey (Geri) and Duff. In addition, Ruth had nine grandchildren: Laurie, Jennifer, Megan, Cameron, Shaun, Casey, Taryn, Cheyenna, Jenni and a great-granddaughter, Paige.
Church services will take place November 15, 2012, 2 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., immediately followed by a celebration of Ruth’s life at Niguel Shores Recreation Center in Monarch Beach, Calif., Food and drinks will be served.
