  • When the clock strikes 7 a.m. (10 a.m. for some townships) across Minnesota tomorrow, polling places are going to officially open for voting in the 2012 general election. Seats on city councils, county board and school board, as well as House and Senate seats in the Minnesota legislature are up for grabs.
    Federal positions, including U.S. Congressional seats, one U.S. Senate post and the office of president are also going to be decided with the ultimate decision up to the people who take the time to cast a ballot.
    Redistricting means those in the Redwood area are voting in new state house and senate districts, including most of Redwood County now in Senate District 16. Only Springdale Township, Lamberton Town-ship, North Hero Township, the City of Walnut Grove, the City of Revere and the City of Lamberton are not in this district, as they are part of the New Senate District 22.
    Those aforementioned townships and cities are also part of House District 22B.
    Underwood Township, Vesta Township, Westline Township, Gales Township, the City of Milroy and the City of Vesta are part of House District 16A, with the rest of the county cities and townships included in 16B.
    All of Redwood County is in the Seventh Congression-al District.
    If you are 18 years old and meet other eligibility requirements you may vote.
    Information regarding eligibility requirements may be found on the Secretary of State Web site at www.sos.state.mn.us or by contacting the Redwood County Aud-itor-Treasurer’s office at (507) 637-4013.
    What follows is a list of polling places for the residents of Redwood County. Unless otherwise stated, polling places open at 7 a.m.
    • The Belview community center for the City of Belview and Kintire Township (10 a.m.)
    • Clements Legion hall for the City of Clem-ents, Sundown Town-ship and Three Lakes Township
    • Delhi city hall for the City of Delhi and Delhi Township
    • Redwood Falls fire hall for Honner Town-ship, Paxton Township and Redwood Falls Township
    • Lamberton Com-munity Center for the City of Lamberton and Lamberton Township
    • Lucan fire hall for the City of Lucan, Granite Rock Township (10 a.m.) and Johnson-ville Township (10 a.m.)
    • Milroy city hall for the City of Milroy, Gales Township (10 a.m. and Westline Township (10 a.m.)
    • The Cedar Mountain school gym lobby for the City of Morgan, Brookville Township (10 a.m.), Morgan Township (10 a.m.) and Sherman Township (10 a.m.)
    • The David Jenniges home for Waterbury Township (10 a.m.)
    • The Redwood Area Community Center for Wards 1, 2 and 3 of the City of Redwood Falls
    • Revere city hall for the City of Revere

    All polls close at 8 p.m. One may register to vote on election day with proof of residence information. Contact the auditor-treasurer for info regarding what forms of proof are accepted.
