  • Led by sophomore Lauren Hanson the future looks bright for the Redwood Valley girls volleyball team despite a tough end to the 2012 campaign. The Cardinals say goodbye to four seniors from a team that finished     10-18-1, but are going to return a nice foursome of hitters in Hanson, Alison Curry, Kenzie Mace and Victoria Quast.
    Hanson led the team with 198 kills and 251 digs. She also led the way with a 96 percent serve accuracy (259-of-271).  Hanson added 13 ace serves and had 29 ace blocks.
    Quast was second in kills with 160 and finished second in ace blocks with 70.  She had an 86 percent serve accuracy (79-of-92) and had 39 digs.
    Curry finished third in kills with 111, was first in ace blocks with 75, added 52 digs, 13 set assists and an 84 percent serve accuracy (78-of-93) with six aces.
    Mace came on strong late in the season, finishing fourth in kills with 106, second in serve accuracy at 95 percent (267-of-281) and second in digs with 183.  She also added 11 ace serves and 19 ace blocks.
    Senior TJ Christesen wrapped up her career with 66 kills, 158 digs, 23 ace blocks, 23 set assists and a 90 percent serve accuracy (191-of-212) with 17 aces.
    Senior Steph Jensen led the Cards with 525 set assists, added seven kills, 21 ace blocks, 137 digs and an 89 percent serve accuracy (270-of-304) with a team-high 31 aces.
    Tara Sandgren finished with 18 set assists, three kills and two ace blocks, Abbey Weilage had one kill and one ace block and Courtney Stoen added 23 digs.
    Marshall, Jackson County Central and Windom Area – the top three finishers in the SWC once again this season – are fighting it out to see who represents Section 3AA at the state tournament.
    Marshall battled cinderella Montevideo in one semifinal, and Jackson County Central squared off with Windom Area in the other.  
    The Section final was held Saturday at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall.
