For almost 20 years, Sue Tholkes’ hair salon, Mill St. Hair Company, was based on Mill Street. No surprise there.
So the first question many people had when they heard Sue Tholkes was moving to E. 2nd St. was, “Is she going to change the name?”
“We’ve kept ‘Hair Company’, but we’ve added ‘Salon and Spa’,” she said last week, finally moved into her new building.
“I’d been at the other space on Mill Street since 1985, and owned it since May, 1993,” she said.
“I was looking for a bigger space, and I loved the ceilings in here. When I heard the building was available, I flew over here,” Tholkes said.
One of Tholkes’s main goals was expanding her spa services — facials, skin care, massage, pedicure, and manicures, among others.
The expanded space allows Tholkes to add another chair in the hair salon area, a new makeup stall, and additional chairs for manicures and pedicures.
There is also a new room for skin care, and one for waxing.
Tholkes also appreciated the new building’s antique history.
“I think there was a dance hall upstairs,” she laughed.
