  • United Way kicks off year with jail 'n bail

  • Getting one’s friends, loved ones, and co-workers thrown in jail — even if for only a day — is a secret dream for millions. On Thursday the Redwood County United Way used that secret fantasy as an opportunity to raise funds for good causes across the Redwood area.

  • Getting one’s friends, loved ones, and co-workers thrown in jail  — even if for only a day — is a secret dream for millions.
On Thursday the Redwood County United Way used that secret fantasy as an opportunity to raise funds for good causes across the Redwood area.
This year’s United Way kick-off, the fourth annual Jail ‘n Bail, was held at Scott Preusse in Redwood Falls.
Once again, good natured volunteers agreed to be captured, thrown in a makeshift jail, and bailed out by friends and co-workers.
The goal: raise $26,500 for the following organizations:
    • ARC Southwest
    • American Red Cross Renville/RWF
    • Boys Scouts - Twin Valley
    • Choices Pregnancy
    • Community Youth Foundation
    • New Horizons Crisis Center
    • Peacepipe Girl Scouts
    • RW Area Compassionate Friends
    • RW County/Building Healthy Families
    • SW Center for Independent Living
    • We Care
    • Western Comm. Action - Big Buddies
Matt Tiffany of the local United Way explained, “The way it works is people go to "jail" and the way they get out is raise or donate at least $100.
“Pretty simple actually and we can arrange to pick up the inmates, cuff em and stuff em if wanted and get them back once they have reached their pledges or you can pay to keep them in too, for a while.
“It can also be as easy as just showing up with your bail money and you're on your way.”
By the end of the day, the United Way had raised approximately $11,500 toward its goal for the year.
But don’t relax yet. When it comes to jail and bail, you’re only on parole until next year....
