  • The lack of moisture in the area has grown to the point where risk of fire has led local law enforcement to restrict burning.
The restriction went into effect last week.
According to Randy Hanson, Redwood County sheriff, a burning restriction has been enacted in the county, which means no one with a burning permit is going to be given permission to do any burning.
A similar burning restriction has been enacted in Renville County, and as is the case in Redwood County, the only fires which are being allowed at this time are campfires which are in a container and are limited to a size of three feet square. Extra precautions need to be taken when starting a campfire, including making sure extinguishing devices nearby.
The current restrictions remain in place until further notice, but when the restrictions are lifted all current burning permits would then again be allowed.
With no rain in the immediate forecast and lower humidity in the air, compounded by forecasts of high winds, the conditions look to remain the same for the immediate future.
Information regarding burning restrictions may be found online at the DNR Web site which can be found at www.dnr.state.mn.us.
The DNR is reminding farmers to be cautious when operating machinery in dry conditions, as sparks from machinery may ignite.
The DNR reminds all people in these dry conditions to call 911 immediately of a fire breaks out, as a fire in conditions like those which currently exist can move quickly and get out of hand in a short period of time.
