  • Lucille Mathiowetz, 93, of Olivia died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Olivia. Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with Pastor Paul van de Crommert as celebrant. Interment was in the church cemetery.

  • Lucille Mathiowetz, 93, of Olivia died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Olivia. Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with Pastor Paul van de Crommert as celebrant. Interment was in the church cemetery.
    Lucille Evelyn Mathiowetz was born April 24, 1919 on the family farm at Three Lakes Township, rural Redwood County to Joseph and Mary (Rothmeier) Tauer.
    When she was 13 her family moved to Morgan, and she graduated from Morgan High School. After graduation she did babysitting and housework for a family.
     Lucille was united in marriage to Harold Mathiowetz September 11, 1940 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan, and they were the parents of seven children. Harold and Lucille made their home for two years at Clements, the following two years at Morton, and then farmed in Henryville Township, rural Olivia, for many years.
    In 1975 they moved into their home in Olivia. Besides being a homemaker Lucille had worked as a nurse’s aid at the Renville County Hospital for 10 years. She was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the CCW and was Leader of the Mission Group for 20 years. In 1995 she received the Bishop’s Medal of Service for her volunteer work. She had been a 4-H Leader for 10 years and the Renville County Hospital Auxiliary President for 15 years.
    Lucille enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, volunteer work, playing cards, and visiting relatives. She especially enjoyed family gatherings and the love of her life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Lucille is survived by her five children and their spouses: Alice (and Gene) Renstrom of Willmar, Bernice (and Dan) Amberg of Excelsior, Harvey (and Betty) Mathiowetz of Olivia, Floyd (and Sharon) Mathiowetz of Pierz and Donna (and Dave) Larson of Plymouth; her 12 grandchildren: Renae (Scott) Brunner, Mark (Nicolle) Amberg, Brian (Sara) Amberg, Theresa (Randy) Tersteeg, Scott Mathiowetz (special friend Linda), Kevin (Barbara) Mathiowetz, Paul (Amy) Mathiowetz, Krista (Paul) Laumer, Sara (Rodney) Dick, Joseph (Tammy) Mathiowetz, Brent Larson and Justin Larson, 20 great-grandchildren and her sister Veronica Mathiowetz of Morgan.
    Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, her two daughters Joyce and JoAnn Mathiowetz, her grandson Todd Mathiowetz, her granddaughter Susan Amberg, her sisters: Mary Reiner, Agnes Schwab and Eleanor Heiling and her brother Sylvester Tauer.
