  • Colleen (Kodet) Mahoney, 52, of Fairmont and formerly of Bechyn, passed away unexpectedly August 30, 2012 at Fairmont Medical facility. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn with Pastor Mike Doyle as celebrant.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Arrangements were with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.
Colleen Mary Mahoney was born in Redwood Falls July 26, 1960 to Jerome and Clare Kodet. Colleen was baptized and confirmed at St Mary’s Church of Bechyn.
She graduated from Morton High School in 1978 where she “lettered” in cheerleading and girls basketball and was also in the Homecoming Court. During Colleen’s childhood and young adulthood, she sold sweet corn to earn money for school clothes and was a nurturing caretaker for her brother, Tom, whose special needs required constant supervision.
Colleen’s father gave her the nickname of “Cookie” as a child because she loved eating cookies. Colleen suffered a back injury early in her working career. Her disability limited her daily activities for the remainder of her life; however, she did remain positive and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching movies and communicating with her family and friends through email and Facebook. Colleen’s hobbies were collecting tea pots and decorative porcelain high heel shoes.
As a farmer’s daughter, she had a green thumb for keeping houseplants healthy and alive.  Colleen enjoyed traveling and had visited Germany, Paris, France, Luxemburg, Biloxi, Miss., and Cancun, Mexico.
Colleen was the proud mother of two beautiful children; Amy Jo Kodet and Blake Thomas Mahoney.
Prior to her death, she valued the time she was able to spend with her beautiful grandchildren.
Colleen is survived by her daughter, Amy Jo Kodet (Brendon Kreb) of St. Louis Park, Blake Mahoney (Jenny) of Albert Lea and five grandchildren: Deven, Lizzy, Gavin, Emie and Vivian; her mother Clare Kodet of Bechyn; her siblings: Linda Ahrens of Redwood Falls, Monica Morrissey of Grand Forks, N.D., Jeff (and Gwen) Kodet of Morton, Tim (and Barb) Kodet of Rochester and Tom Kodet of Worthington and many nieces and nephews.
Colleen was preceded in death by her father Jerome Kodet, brother-in-law Bill Morrissey, and nephew Brian Ahrens.
    Blessed be her memory.
