  •   This past Tuesday at 2:59 a.m. the Krause clan was increased by one when Gideon Troy was born. While the males in the family are still outnumbered, we do feel there is a much better chance of actually getting our way once in a while, especially since oldest sibling Naomi is going to be off to college soon. What makes my youngest’s story so unique, or perhaps I?should say not very unique, is he is an August baby. On the Krause side, he joins, my Martha, as well as cousins Jesse, Rory, and Keegan all who were born in August. So, of the 14 grandchildren, five of them now celebrate their birthdays in the same month. I’m thinking there has to be a way we can same money on gifts or birthday parties somehow. When we found out for sure Gideon was going to be born in August, Kelly pointed out to me some other extended family were also born in August, including two Krause boys born to Mitch and Holly Krause, and my sister, Carmen, told me there was an aunt on my mom’s side who had three children born on the same day in August. Apparently, there is something going on in August, or should I?say there is something going on nine months before August. So, with the birth of Gideon the Krause clan reaches seven, which for some is unimaginable. I?have at times told people when they ask we “only” have seven, giving them the impression perhaps that seven really is not that many, and I?know there are families not that far away from where the Krause farm sets who have reached double digits. No, we are not going there. I?am pretty sure after another very long labor my better half may just be ready to call it quits, but I never say never. Speaking of that labor, I?want to thank all of the nurses at the Redwood Area Hospital, including Sherry, Fay, Laura, Mindy and Pauline who helped to make Kelly as comfortable as possible and did a great job helping bring Gideon into the world. Thanks again, too, to Dr. Cilek. She is definitely a calming, encouraging influence in the labor room. The Krause family was almost guaranteed to have a boy this time, because I?had refused to accept any girl’s name and told Kelly if it would have been a girl she could surprise me after Dr. Cilek announced it. I was pretty sure I?knew which name Kelly would have picked, and shortly after Gideon was born I?leaned over and told her perhaps we could still use it if she wanted to buy a fish. Welcome to the world, Gideon, this dad is sure proud  and can’t wait to get to know you.
