  •   In just a few weeks the annual Relay For Life event is going to take place at Gilfillan. The dates are July 19-20, and there is certainly plenty of time for you to get involved if you haven’t done so already. I was able to meet for a few moments Monday night with some of the Redwood County Relay For Life group and heard some of the updates going on in the final few weeks. Among those activities taking place are a few fundraisers, including a Motorcycle Run this Saturday in Morgan. There is also a taco feed June 30 at the American Legion in Redwood Falls, a tip night at Pizza Ranch June 26 and a lunch hour grilling event July 12 at Thrivent.  If you are able, I?would encourage you to take in some of these events to help raise funds for cancer research. We at the Gazette are planning to print a special section for the annual event. So, if you have ideas of what you would like to see in that special section you can send that idea to me via e-mail at editor@redwoodfallsgazette.com, or you can call me at (507)?637-2929. Also if you have photos of recent fundraising events we could potentially publish in that special section you can e-mail them to me or you can drop them off. Remember, we love to know who people are in photos, so if you can provide identifications that would be great, too. You can find out more about the upcoming event online at www.relayforlife.org. … Starting today a new winery is opening in Redwood County. Called Grandview Valley Winery, the Rigge family has been working for some time toward the opening of its business in the Minnesota River Valley north of Belview. I had the chance to meet with the family this past week and am planning to do a more in-depth story on the vineyard and the winery in an upcoming Ag Today section. If you are a connoisseur of wine I?would encourage you to take the time to go and visit Grandview Valley Winery. What I?really appreciated about speaking with the Rigges was the commitment they have to the area and the hard work they have put into their vision. I?also appreciated the fact I?was told they received support from other winery folks in the area, including those from Fieldstone Vineyards here in Redwood Falls. Although they represent direct competition, the Rigges said people like Charlie Quast and Mark Wedge have been very willing to offer assistance and guidance. That not only speaks volumes about who these guys are as people but also demonstrates they really understand the “more is better” philosophy. Nestled into the river valley, the view at Grandview Valley Winery is fantastic and that in itself is worth the visit. You can find more on their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/pages/Grandview-Valley-Winery /161167794829. … I received some sad news Monday when I was told via a telephone call that a church in Johnsonville Township, Trinity Lutheran, is going to close its doors after its services this coming Sunday. I?called the church’s current pastor, Trevor Bailey, who confirmed that information. The church, which is located south of Lucan on CSAH 10 is a beautiful building, but it seems attendance has been dropping. So, if you have any connection with this church, you might want to consider heading over to this final worship service which is set to start at 9:30 a.m.
