Holding off Windom Area by eight strokes the Redwood Valley boys golf team defended its Sub-Section SE title Thursday at the Oakdale Country Club in Buffalo Lake.
Battling less than ideal weather conditions, the Cardinals fired a 340 team total to hold off SWC rivals Windom Area (348) and Jackson County?Central (357) to advance to the?Section 3AA?meet Thursday at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Willmar.
Adam Hengel fired an 82 (43-39) to finish in third, and Joe Smith added an 83 (41-42) to place fourth.
Alec Koster finished with an 86 (45-41), and Mitch Fischer carded an 89 (46-43) for the two remaining counting scores.
Derek Bebeau (49-43) and Thane Widmer (47-45) each finished with 92s.
Adam Eisenmenger of Windom Area and Ben Reckow of St. James shared medalist honors with rounds of 81.
The Cardinal girls had their strongest outing of the season, finishing third with a score of 398.
A strong JCC team fired a 369 to edge Windom Area (386) for the team title.
Junior Abby Schmidt put together her best 18-hole round of the season, firing a 94 (46-48) to finish fifth and advance to the Section 3AA meet for the second straight season.
Julie Anderson had a solid round of 99 (48-51) and also qualified for a Section berth, and MacKenzie Manthei finished with a 101 (49-52).
Alex Erie (50-54) and Madison?Tholkes (51-53) each carded 104s, and MacKenzie Mace added a 106 (55-51).
Kaylee Benson of JCC earned medalist honors with her round of 81.
