With victories over New London-Spicer and Benson, the Redwood Valley girls softball team has advanced into the semifinals of the Section 3AA?tournament.
A pair of strong outings from standout Sam Felt were all the Cards would need, as they defeated New London-Spicer 4-0 in round one and Benson   4-0 in round two at the RVHS softball complex.
With the victories, the Cardinals (18-3) have moved into Saturday’s double elimination action in Marshall.
The Cards face south number two seed New Ulm (18-2) at 1 p.m. with the victor advancing to face the winner of the Pipestone Area (21-0) vs. Morris/CA (16-3) match-up.
The Eagles are going to be a tough draw for the Cards – having won 15 straight games and winning both tournament games by shutouts (10-0 over Fairmont and 2-0 over JCC).
In the Cards opener against New London-Spicer, an unearned run in the bottom half of the first is all Felt would need, as she stymied the Wildcat hitters – allowing just one hit, striking out seven and walking three on the way to a complete game shutout.
Junior Ashley Bunting finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and Callie Hansen went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and an RBI.
Julia Busiahn finished 2-for-4, Kayla Pohlen was 2-for-3, Nicole Bunting went 2-for-3 and Steph Jensen was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Game two against Benson was much of the same, as Felt dominated the Brave hitters, striking out 12 batters and allowing just two hits on the way to a complete game shutout.
The Cards led 2-0 after three innings of play and would score twice in the bottom of the fourth to put it away.
Hansen capped off a big day by going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
Ashley Bunting was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Jensen went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Felt went 2-for-3.
Nicole Bunting picked up a hit, and Tara Sandgren scored a run.
