Generally for Mother’s Day, it’s common for families and friends to celebrate the family matriarch.
Families that are a little more ambitious might even put on a little skit in appreciation for all mom does for them.
However, at Garnette Gardens assisted living home in Redwood Falls, a new tradition has started: the Nut Goodie Band performs for the kids.
On Saturday, May 5, 16 residents, aided by several musical volunteers, put on a sing-along concert for their families in the lobby of Garnette Gardens.
The Nut Goodie Band formed two years ago, and has since performed at area nursing homes and holidays.
Although it was several weeks early, the Mother’s Day concert was made of old-time favorites, with volunteers on keyboards and guitar providing most of the music, and the residents providing the percussion and accompaniment.
The concert included audience sing alongs, and participation such as blowing soap bubbles during “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles.”
When it was over, the audience got a special mother’s day gift — memories created by mom herself.
