Sam Felt and Drew Lueck were named Senior Athletes of the Year Friday afternoon at the Redwood Valley extracurricular Awards Ceremony held at the RVHS gymnasium.
To be eligible for the award, you must be in two sports or more your senior year, cannot have a MSHSL violation, must follow the rules of the district, be a good student and an upstanding member of the community.
Candidates are selected and then chosen upon by the Redwood Valley coaches.
Felt has been a standout in volleyball, basketball and softball during her four-year varsity career.
The former Kratzke Award winner has a remarkable resume, playing varsity basketball for four years (named captain twice) and helping the Cards reach the Section 3AA final.
As a softball player, she’ll go down as the winningest pitcher in Cardinal history, helping the Cards to their first ever SWC title in 2011. Felt is also a three-time All-SWC first team selection.
In volleyball she played four years and was named captain as a senior on the way to honorable mention All-SWC honors.
In academics she also shined, graduating with highest honors.
She was a member of the National?Honor Society, went to state in speech twice as a four-year participant, was involved in choir and band and was the senior class president.
Lueck participated in football, basketball and golf and was the true epitome of a “team” guy.
He was part of the Cardinals 2011 state basketball fourth-place team.
Academics were his strong suit, being named the president of the National Honor Society and earning highest honors for the Class of 2012.
