  • A two-out, run-scoring single by Colin Bailey in the top half of the sixth inning proved to be the difference as Redwood Valley edged host Windom Area 7-6 Tuesday afternoon in a SWC match-up.
With stormy weather looming, the Cardinals (3-5) were able to hold off the Eagles for their first conference win of the season and second straight overall heading into tonight’s showdown at Marshall.
An RBI single off the bat of Beau Stough would give the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead.
Windom Area would tie up the score at one, but the Cards would plate two more in the third.
Dane Olsen smashed an RBI?triple to right field, and Jordan Ford singled to score Olsen.
The Eagles would counter with one of its own in the bottom half of the frame, but the Cards tacked on another in the fourth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Chris Verdoes that scored Jordan Lund.
Back came Windom Area in the bottom of the fourth, as they would plate three runs to take a 5-4 lead into the fifth.
Trailing for the first time in the game, the Cards responded with two runs to reclaim the lead.  Stough walked and Ford singled to put runners on the corners with nobody out.
Bailey then scored Stough on a fielder’s choice, and Braydin Kvistero would pick up an RBI single that scored Ford to put the Cards back on top 6-5.
Windom Area would manage to tie the score in the bottom of the frame on a two-out wild pitch, but the Cards picked up a run in the sixth and held off the Eagles in their final two at-bats to claim a big SWC?win.
Tyler Kohout picked up the victory allowing five earned runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking two in seven innings of work.
Verdoes led an 11-hit attack going 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored, Ford was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Kvistero went 2-for-4 with an?RBI.
Kohout added a double, Olsen was 1-for-3 with a triple, Stough went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Bailey was 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
The Cardinals are still without the services of pitcher/infielder Austin Kretsch who suffered a severely sprained ankle in the Cards loss at JCC.  He is slated to return to the line-up today against Marshall.
On Friday, the Cardinals used a six-run fifth inning to catapult themselves to a 16-5 rout of host Sleepy Eye in a non-conference match-up.
Bailey went 2-for-5 with a triple and four RBI, and Verdoes was 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and five runs scored.
Devon Sandgren added a triple and three RBI, Kohout was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI and Kvistero was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.
